The short answer
- A truck console safe is a steel insert made for one truck's factory console, so your truck and model year pick it before anything else.
- For a 2021-2024 F-150 I pick the Tuffy 376-01; for a 2015-2020 F-150 or 2017-2022 Super Duty, the Tuffy 317-01.
- For a 2019-on Silverado or Sierra, the Tuffy 356-01; for a 2019-on Ram, the Tuffy 354-01; for a 2014-2021 Tundra, the Tuffy 323-01.
- Measure your console length and check for a wireless charging pad before you order, and keep the key off the truck's key ring.
A truck console safe turns the factory center console into a locked steel box, bolted to the truck and concealed under the armrest. The best truck console safe is the one built for your truck’s console and model year. For a 2021-2024 F-150 I pick the Tuffy 376-01, for a 2019-on Silverado the Tuffy 356-01 and for a 2019-on Ram the Tuffy 354-01. If you drive more than one vehicle, a portable box from our car gun safe picks moves with you; a console safe stays put.
Truck console safe fit by make and model year
A truck console safe is made for one console, so fitment by truck and model year decides the shortlist. The table compares fit, install and space:

| Pick | Fits | Drilling | Lock options | Interior |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tuffy 376-01 | 2021-24 F-150, 12.50 in console | None | Key or 3-digit combo | 1,430+ cu in |
| Tuffy 317-01 | 2015-20 F-150, 2017-22 Super Duty | None | Key or 3-digit combo | 1,430+ cu in |
| Tuffy 356-01 | 2019-26 Silverado/Sierra, no wireless pad | None | Key or 3-digit combo | 500+ cu in |
| Tuffy 354-01 | 2019-27 Ram exc. Longhorn, Limited, TRX | Minor | Key | 400+ cu in |
| Tuffy 323-01 | 2014-21 Tundra, fixed console | None | Key | 900+ cu in |
Why bolt anything in? Thefts from motor vehicles made up 27.1 percent of all larceny-thefts in the FBI’s 2019 count, and a smash-and-grab thief goes for the console first.
The 5 best truck console safes, reviewed
These five truck console safes cover the best-selling full-size pickups. None makes a fire claim, which is normal for a vehicle safe.

Tuffy Security Console Safe 376-01: Best for 2021-2024 Ford F-150

3.8Best Safe Spec Score out of 5
- Security (lock and build)7/10
- Access (speed and ease)8/10
- Capacity9/10
- Value7/10
I scored capacity highest for the 1,430 cubic inch box and access well for the lid support and stock armrest; security is held back because the console walls around the steel stay plastic, and with no fire claim, fire is left out.
What owners and reviewers say review themes from 23 owner reviews, plus 11 posts and reviews we read
Praised for
- Solid build and a stock look once installed
- One owner chose it over Ford's own console safe for its larger opening
Common complaints
- The small screws at the bottom of the console are hard to start
- One owner reports a loose fit, with the legs short of the back wall

Who it's for: A 2021-2024 F-150 owner with the 12.50 inch flow-through console who wants a handgun, wallet or documents hidden in a stock-looking console; it may limit the factory accessory tray, and 2024+ trucks with a 12.25 inch console need the 415-01.
The Tuffy Security Console Safe 376-01 is a welded-steel truck console safe from Tuffy Security Products for the 2021-2024 Ford F-150 with the 12.50 inch flow-through console. It drops in with hand tools and no drilling, keeps the factory armrest and lid, and a lid stop holds the lid open while you reach in. Tuffy lists over 1,430 cubic inches inside, the most of my five. The Pry-Guard lock uses a 10-tumbler double-bitted key with weather seals; the 376-01-A is the combo lock version, and the steel wears a textured powder coat.
What owners say on Tuffy’s page: solid build, a stock look, and, for one buyer, a larger opening than Ford’s own console safe. The recurring complaint is the small screws at the console floor; several owners call them the hardest part. A 2024 F-150 with the 12.25 inch console takes the 415-01 instead.
Tuffy Ford F-150 2015+ Security Console Insert: Best for 2015-2020 F-150 and Super Duty

3.8Best Safe Spec Score out of 5
- Security (lock and build)7/10
- Access (speed and ease)8/10
- Capacity9/10
- Value7/10
I gave it the same capacity score as the 376-01 because the box is the same size class, and the same security score for the same lock and plastic console walls; no fire claim, so fire is left out.

Praised for
- Fits like a glove and looks factory once installed
- An F-450 owner says it fits because the console is the same
Common complaints
- The tight fit makes the install take dexterity and patience
- One owner lined the console floor to stop sliding and noise

Who it's for: An owner of an older F-150 or a Super Duty who wants the biggest locked space a factory console allows; it is a tight fit by design, so expect a fiddly install.
The Tuffy Ford F-150 2015+ Security Console Insert (model 317-01) is a 16-gauge welded steel console safe from Tuffy for the 2015-2020 F-150 and 2017-2022 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty. One part covers two truck lines with 1,430 cubic inches. It installs without drilling, keeps the factory tray and comes keyed or with a 3-digit combo.
Owners say it fits like a glove, and one F-450 owner reports it fits because the console is the same. The flip side is a tight install that takes patience. One owner laid rubber drawer liner on the floor to stop sliding and noise,
Tuffy Security Console Safe 356-01: Best for 2019-on Silverado and Sierra

3.5Best Safe Spec Score out of 5
- Security (lock and build)7/10
- Access (speed and ease)8/10
- Capacity6/10
- Value7/10
I scored it like the F-150 models on security and access, but lower on capacity because the box is about a third of their size; no fire claim, so fire is left out.
What owners and reviewers say review themes from 18 owner reviews, plus 15 posts and reviews we read
Praised for
- Easy install and a perfect fit for most owners
- Feels sturdy and looks stock in the console
Common complaints
- One owner says it moves about half an inch side to side
- One buyer warns it does not fit a 2023 F-250 (it is a GM-only part)

Who it's for: A Silverado or Sierra 1500, 2500HD or 3500HD owner with a full-floor console; it does not fit trucks with the wireless charging pad (that is the 393-01) or flip-up front seats.
The Tuffy Security Console Safe 356-01 is a welded-steel truck console safe from Tuffy for 2019-2026 Silverado and Sierra 1500, 2500HD and 3500HD trucks with a full-floor console. It installs in minutes with hand tools and no drilling, weighs about 8 lb, and the lock uses 1/8 inch welded Pry-Guard parts. At over 500 cubic inches it is about a third the size of the F-150 boxes, still room for a pistol in a holster and a wallet.
Check two things first: it does not fit trucks with the wireless charging pad (Tuffy’s 393-01 does) or flip-up front seats. Walmart owners mostly report an easy, snug install; one says it moves about half an inch side to side.
Tuffy Security Console Safe 354-01: Best for 2019-on Ram trucks

3.6Best Safe Spec Score out of 5
- Security (lock and build)8/10
- Access (speed and ease)8/10
- Capacity5/10
- Value7/10
I gave it the top security score here because its brackets screw into the console after drilling, and the lowest capacity score for the smallest box; no fire claim, so fire is left out.
What owners and reviewers say review themes from 33 owner reviews, plus 9 posts and reviews we read
Praised for
- Perfect fit and an easy install once you read the instructions
- A holstered compact 9mm and emergency cash fit together
Common complaints
- The lid can rattle over rough roads
- A 5thGenRams owner calls Tuffy's 16-gauge thinner than 12-gauge rivals

Who it's for: A Ram owner with the fixed floor console who wants a carry pistol or cash locked under the armrest; it skips Longhorn, Limited and TRX trims and consoles with sliding cup-holder trays, and it is the one pick that needs drilling.
The Tuffy Security Console Safe 354-01 is a 16-gauge steel truck console safe from Tuffy for 2019-2027 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks, except Longhorn, Limited and TRX trims. It is the one pick that needs minor drilling,, which I count as a plus: the brackets screw into the console. The box is 12.5 x 9.25 x 5.375 inches with over 400 cubic inches.
One Ram 1500 owner says his holstered S&W Shield Plus fits, with room for emergency cash. His complaint: the lid rattles over rough roads, which felt padding fixes. On 5thGenRams, one owner chose Console Vault for its 12-gauge body over Tuffy’s 16-gauge.
Tuffy Security Console Safe 323-01: Best for 2014-2021 Toyota Tundra

3.6Best Safe Spec Score out of 5
- Security (lock and build)7/10
- Access (speed and ease)8/10
- Capacity7/10
- Value7/10
I scored it in the middle on capacity for the 900 cubic inch box and the same as the others on security and access; no fire claim, so fire is left out.
What owners and reviewers say from 7 reviews and posts we read
Praised for
- Sits below an aftermarket tray, so daily items stay on top
- Fits well; one owner installed it in about 20 minutes
Common complaints
- Tundra owners debate it against Lock'er Down, whose lid is spring loaded
Read on: Tuffy: owner reviews on the 323-01 product page · Tundras.com: Who has the Tuffy Security console?
Who it's for: A 2014-2021 Tundra owner with the fixed console who wants a pistol, documents or a wallet hidden under the armrest; 2022-on Tundras need Tuffy's 761-01 instead.
The Tuffy Security Console Safe 323-01 is a 16-gauge welded steel console safe from Tuffy for the 2014-2021 Tundra with the fixed center console. It installs without drilling, routes a cord to the optional 12V outlet and gives over 900 cubic inches. 2022-on Tundras need the 761-01.
What I like most comes from an owner: it sits low enough for an aftermarket tray above, so daily items stay on top and the gun stays locked below. Another installed it in about 20 minutes. On Tundras.com, owners split between this and Lock’er Down’s spring-loaded lid.
Which truck console safe should you get
Match the truck console safe to your truck and year first, then check the console details.

- 2021-2024 F-150, 12.50 in console: Tuffy 376-01.
- 2015-2020 F-150 or 2017-2022 Super Duty: Tuffy 317-01.
- 2019-on Silverado or Sierra, no wireless pad: Tuffy 356-01.
- 2019-on Ram, fixed floor console: Tuffy 354-01.
- 2014-2021 Tundra, fixed console: Tuffy 323-01.
How to check your truck console before ordering a console safe
Measure the console and confirm your year, trim and options before you order a truck console safe.

- Note your model year, trim and cab; Ram Longhorn, Limited and TRX differ.
- Empty the console and lift out the mat and tray.
- Measure the console length front to back; 2024-on F-150s can have a 12.25 inch console instead of 12.50.
- Look for a wireless charging pad or a flip-up middle seat.
- Measure your holstered pistol against the lid opening, not only the box.
- Set out a stubby screwdriver for the floor screws; the video below shows an F-150 install.
Truck console safe capacity – what fits in cubic inches
The F-150 boxes hold more than three times what the Ram box holds, so capacity, not steel, separates these five. The 376-01 and 317-01 give over 1,430 cubic inches, the 323-01 over 900, the 356-01 over 500 and the 354-01 over 400. Since even the 400 cubic inch Ram box takes a holstered compact 9mm, each pick should fit a compact carry pistol; check the lid opening for a full-size gun. The bigger F-150 boxes add room for a wallet, documents and spare magazines.
Truck console safe problems owners run into, and the fix
Most truck console safe complaints are about fit, a visible gun, rattles and what the safe can resist.
- A cable box feels too weak. An r/CCW reply sums it up: “A console safe that is attached to the vehicle is quite a bit better than a lock box with a cable.” Fix: a bolt-in insert like these.
- The safe slides or rattles. Fix: line the floor with rubber drawer liner, add felt under the lid and tighten every bracket screw.
- People can see it. Fix: the insert sits under the factory lid; lock the gun away before you park.
- The lock fails. An electronic lock can die in a hot cab. Fix: these keyed locks need no battery; keep the spare key at home.
- It only guards the lid. The console walls stay plastic, and a 5thGenRams owner calls the lock the weak point on every brand. Fix: treat it as smash-and-grab protection and take the gun inside overnight.
From our notes: The Tuffy 376-01’s 12.50-inch console-length note changed how I built this list. Two 2024 F-150s can look the same and still need different safes, because some came with a 12.25-inch console. The fit complaints I read across Tuffy, Walmart and forum reviews were about console length, trim and a charging pad, not about steel. So my first step for any truck owner is a tape measure and the trim sticker, not the cart.
How we picked these truck console safes
I kept only console safes that at least two top-ranking pages list and that sell as their own in-stock Amazon US listing. Tuffy’s catalog and Guardian Safe and Vault’s truck safe pages both list all five. Console Vault, recommended in r/CCW, USCCA and GunSafes.com threads, showed only unavailable Amazon listings, and I found no Amazon US listing for Lock’er Down, so neither is featured, though both are built from 12-gauge steel per a forum owner and a retailer listing. I have not installed these safes myself; the facts come from Tuffy’s spec pages and the owner reviews linked under each product.
Truck console safe storage rules for a handgun
A truck console safe makes a parked firearm harder to steal, but it does not settle the law for you. Everytown’s analysis of FBI data counted nearly 62,000 guns stolen from cars in 2022 across 337 US cities. Rules on locked containers and unattended vehicles differ by state, so check your state’s official rules; I do not give legal advice.

Questions safe buyers ask
Do console safes fit any truck?
No. Each truck console safe is shaped for one make, model and year range, and sometimes one console length or trim. The Tuffy 376-01 needs a 12.50 inch F-150 console, the 356-01 does not fit Silverados with the wireless charging pad, and the 354-01 skips Ram Longhorn, Limited and TRX trims. Check the maker's fitment notes for your exact truck.
Is Tuffy, Console Vault or Lock'er Down better?
All three make bolt-in steel console safes per vehicle. A 5thGenRams owner notes Console Vault's 12-gauge steel against Tuffy's 16-gauge, and RealTruck lists Lock'er Down at 12-gauge; Tuffy adds 1/8 inch welded lock parts. I featured Tuffy because each model here has its own in-stock Amazon US listing; the other two did not when I checked.
Does a truck console safe need drilling?
Four of my five picks install with hand tools and no drilling, using the console's own bolt points. The Ram 354-01 is the exception: Tuffy says it needs minor drilling into the console.
Will a holstered pistol fit in a truck console safe?
In most full-size trucks, yes. A Ram owner reports a holstered S&W Shield Plus fits his 354-01, the smallest box here at over 400 cubic inches. The F-150 boxes are over 1,430 cubic inches. Measure the lid opening as well as the box.
Is it legal to keep a gun in a truck console safe?
It depends on your state and sometimes your city. Rules on loaded guns, locked containers and unattended vehicles differ, and I do not give legal advice. Check your state attorney general's or state police website and the rules of each state you drive through.
