V-Line Desk Mate 2597-S
3.1/5 Best Safe Score (how we score)
I picked this 16-gauge steel case from V-Line because it hangs flat under a desktop on a quick-release bracket and opens with a five-button Simplex mechanical lock, so there is no battery or fingerprint reader to fail.

Who it's for
- Best under desk gun safe overall in Best Under Desk Gun Safe – 5 Picks Sorted by How They Mount: Home-office owners who want one handgun hidden under the desktop and never want to think about batteries; the inside is shallow (1.75 in), so a holster or a large light will not fit.
What we like
- Simplex five-button lock with 1081 combinations, no batteries or keys
- Only 2.5 in tall closed, so it barely takes knee room under the desktop
- 16-gauge steel, recessed door, anti-pry brackets and a welded hinge
What to know first
- Shallow inside (6.5 x 8.25 x 1.75 in); owners say a thin holster must come off
- Owners call the bracket thumbscrews fiddly for large hands

- Solid, heavy build that mounts easily under a desk, shelf or RV cabinet
Complaints
